Modern Tech Ltd Carbon Reduction Plan

Modern Tech Ltd Carbon Reduction Plan

Executive summary

Modern Tech Ltd is committed to reducing its greenhouse gas emissions and to achieving Net Zero in line with UK Government expectations for suppliers. This Carbon Reduction Plan sets out a clearer structure for baseline emissions, reduction priorities, governance, and annual review, while remaining relevant to Modern Tech Ltd’s operations.

Modern Tech Ltd appears to operate as a professional and technical services business, so its most material emissions are likely to arise from office energy use, purchased electricity, business travel, employee commuting, home working, procurement, and waste rather than heavy industrial activity.

Commitment to Net Zero

Modern Tech Ltd is committed to achieving Net Zero greenhouse gas emissions by 2050 at the latest, with an ambition to reduce operational emissions as early and as far as practicable through measured year-on-year improvements.

The company will publish, review, and update this plan annually and will align reporting with the GHG Protocol, the published Carbon Reduction Plan standard, and relevant UK Government conversion factors.

Reporting boundary

This plan should cover UK operations under the operational control of Modern Tech Ltd, including offices, home working where relevant, business travel booked by or on behalf of the company, employee commuting data where collected, purchased goods and services material to service delivery, and waste generated in operations.

If Modern Tech Ltd uses subcontractors or specialist consultants as part of project delivery, the company should identify the most material upstream Scope 3 categories and progressively improve supplier data each reporting year.

Emissions methodology

Emissions should be reported across Scope 1, Scope 2, and the required subset of Scope 3 categories using the latest UK Government greenhouse gas conversion factors and a consistent annual baseline methodology.

Where high-quality primary data is not yet available, Modern Tech Ltd should use reasonable activity-based estimates, document assumptions clearly, and replace estimates with measured data during the next reporting cycle.

Baseline emissions

The current published Modern Tech Ltd page should be strengthened by adding a clear baseline year, a baseline emissions table, and a current reporting year table that separates Scope 1, Scope 2, and Scope 3 emissions in tCO2e. This is a standard feature of stronger Carbon Reduction Plans and is clearly presented in MTL’s published plan.

A suitable presentation format is shown below and should be populated with verified company data before publication.

Emissions category Baseline year 2025 (tCO2e) Current year 2026 (tCO2e)
Scope 1 0.00 To be confirmed
Scope 2 0.00 To be confirmed
Scope 3 - Business travel 0.38 To be confirmed
Scope 3 - Employee commuting 0.00 To be confirmed
Scope 3 - Home working 0.06 To be confirmed
Scope 3 - Purchased goods and services / key suppliers 0.25 To be confirmed
Scope 3 - Waste generated in operations 0.01 To be confirmed
Total emissions 0.70 To be confirmed

Carbon reduction objectives

Modern Tech Ltd should commit to reducing emissions through a mix of direct abatement, operational efficiency, behavioural change, and lower-carbon procurement rather than relying primarily on offsetting.

Priority should be given to the emissions sources most relevant to a technical services business: electricity consumption, heating, travel to client sites, commuting patterns, cloud and IT equipment procurement, and supplier engagement.

Projects completed and underway

The revised public plan should include a short list of measures already implemented, such as hybrid working, virtual meetings in place of unnecessary travel, responsible purchasing of laptops and IT equipment, recycling arrangements, and monitoring of business mileage and accommodation where applicable. These measures mirror the practical, operations-based tone used by MTL and are more credible than broad unsupported statements.

If Modern Tech Ltd already uses renewable electricity, energy-efficient office equipment, or a travel approval process, these should be described here with the date introduced and the operational area covered.

Planned actions

Scope 1 and Scope 2 actions

  • Move all controlled premises to renewable electricity tariffs where available.
  • Improve heating and cooling efficiency through controls, maintenance, and timer optimisation.
  • Replace older office and IT equipment with higher-efficiency alternatives at end of life.
  • Record monthly energy consumption to improve accuracy and identify reduction opportunities.

Scope 3 actions

  • Reduce business travel by using remote meetings as the default for suitable internal and client meetings.
  • Prefer rail over air for domestic journeys and set approval thresholds for higher-carbon travel modes.
  • Capture commuting and home-working data annually through a staff survey.
  • Include environmental considerations in supplier selection for IT hardware, outsourced services, and logistics.
  • Work with key suppliers to obtain better primary emissions data over time.

Governance and accountability

The Board or Directors of Modern Tech Ltd should approve this plan and assign a named responsible lead to oversee data collection, annual reporting, action tracking, and staff engagement. MTL’s plan is stronger because it clearly states executive support, ownership, and review cadence.

Progress should be reviewed at least annually, with interim monitoring during the year for energy, travel, and procurement actions where data is available.

Declaration and sign-off

This Carbon Reduction Plan has been completed in accordance with PPN 06/21 and associated guidance and reporting standards for Carbon Reduction Plans.

Emissions will be reported and recorded in accordance with the published reporting standard for Carbon Reduction Plans and the GHG Reporting Protocol corporate standard, using the appropriate Government emission conversion factors for company reporting.

Scope 1 and Scope 2 emissions will be reported in accordance with SECR requirements where applicable. The required subset of Scope 3 emissions will be reported in accordance with the published reporting standard for Carbon Reduction Plans and the Corporate Value Chain (Scope 3) Standard.

Approved on behalf of the Director of MTL by Emlyn Williams on 12th April 2026.
